Life means: A winter evening, 2 friends, 2 bottles of beer or even 2 mugs of coffee…. does it matter? Whether you drink vodka, or coffee for that matter, is immaterial. When you are
with close friends you inevitably enjoy yourself. Yes that’s what friends mean, that’s what friendship means. You can be yourself only in front of your friends because true friends will never judge you.
This post is dedicated to my roommate on her birthday, the 30th of October, 2009.Apparently someone calls her Katz…. She doesn’t like either the name or the person who calls her by that name. Kasturi is my roommate and we have been together for over 2 years now. Two years is a long time to know a person, which means that we know almost everything about each other. The journey has not been smooth. Yes, we do fight a lot. Cat fights? Ofcourse that’s what they call it. Its pretty much right, because when we shout at each other we pretty much do it without listening to what the other person is saying (laughs).
If u asked me to describe her in just one word, I would say she is ‘MAD’. But that would be too simplistic a description. We, human beings, are peculiarly complicated creatures and therefore, cannot be described in one word or even a thousand. We have shared some really good times. We have also been together during the difficult times as well. There was the partying, joking, yelling at each other (mostly without reason), explaining things to each other, sending random messages to each other throughout the day, acting crazy, actually, stupid… and the list is never-ending. Inspite of staying in adjacent rooms the previous 2 years, we would still sms each other or chat online, because we were too lazy to get up from our cozy beds!!! And we actually crossed all limits once, when we spoke on phone, and the funniest part is that we could actually hear each other laughing from outside the phone. And we would have competition as to who would reach the washroom first if we both wanted to use it at the same time… Yes, I know what you are thinking… some crazy people, huh?!?! All of these still continue…
And I can’t forget the nights we stayed up talking about guys as if we never had classes the next day and as if guys were the centre of our lives. We would actually end up going to class all bleary-eyed, trying hard to stare at the teacher and make sense out of their words without dozing off!!! Oh yes! What efforts we had to put for staying up in class…
Nah! It’s not all that simple as you may be thinking. We have been through some real tough times. Yes, there are times when we hate each other. She hates my perfectionist nature and I hate her laziness… I hate her mood swings, they are quite unpredictable. I won’t be surprised if she hates my ones too… J The secret I guess is not to bother much and to give each other space. One gets back, you know, when things have normalized a little.
Life means: Maggie and black coffee, a hostel room, 3.25 am.
Life means: 2 old friends, 2 separate cities, 2 coffee mugs, thinking about each other… Yes, I visualize the future like this. And I hope u do too, Kasturi… Staying away from home has taught us a lot of things the hard way, but it has also given us true friendship like this one. Kudos! To life!!! Kudos! To friendship!!!
Thank you, Kasturi, for being a part of my life…
To good times!!! Cheers!!!
